Still Hunting. When a bowhunter finds land that has a good population of whitetail deer (or any other big game), he moves stealthily through the woods, careful to make as little noise as possible and making sure the wind always blows into his face. Hoping he sees his prey before it sees him, he maneuvers into position for an arrow shot. Easier said than done.
A full-frame, 35mm, black and white photographer uses some of these very same tactics, searching for a subject. Slithering through a cityscape or any other ‘hunting area’, the photographer waits for elements within the frame to fall together with perfect synchronicity, forming a harmonious composition. At that moment, and only that moment, the photographer presses the shutter. Just as difficult an endeavor…maybe.
