Smith & Bresson Club

Smith & Bresson Club
Smith & Bresson Club - I was inspired to create the Smith & Bresson Club for photography by the Pope and Young Club, which is for bowhunters. There are certain requirements, which a bow kill needs to satisfy in order to qualify for acceptance in the Pope and Young Club. The criteria to be accepted in the Smith & Bresson club will be based on my own subjective view of my work, which I will score. In short, those photographs that are part of this club will be my best work and those pieces, which would be part of an exhibition. Any photos that meet this criteria, will be marked by a small skull icon. 'Bachelor Group' - 2015                                                                                                                                                          snake

When early spring arrives and as does begin the process of birthing, male whitetails come together and form little bachelor groups, usually between 3-6 in a group.  These bucks will stay together throughout the spring and summer and into the fall, when they finally begin to ready themselves for the upcoming mating season.  Their testosterone levels rise, transforming their bodies into combat machines and the groups break up.  Each buck becomes solitary, sparring and fighting with others to rise of the pecking order to fertilize as many does as possible.  So in the spring, they lie around, watch some TV together and drink a few brewskies.  Once autumn sets in, it's every man for himself, the bachelor groups break up and they compete for the best looking babes.

In The Bushes

'In The Bushes' - 2015                                                                                                                                                              snake

In the woods, the hunter must carefully scan his surroundings because the whitetail deer is perfectly camouflaged to the topography.  The hunter learns to see through the maze of trees, through the brush, to hopefully get a glimpse of his prey.  A twitching ear or tail, sunlight reflecting off an antler tine, may give away the form of the elusive whitetail.

White Mule

'White Mule' - 2015                                                                                                                                                                   snake
ADVANCED SEEING.  The rectangle of the view finder is the key to the composition.  How the borders of the parallelogram cuts the subject gives a more aesthetic view of the animal rather than framing the whole mule in the image.

Black Stallion

'Black Stallion' - 2015                                                                                                                                                               snake
INSTINCTIVE SHOOTING:   Sometimes when photographing, a moment in time passes quickly and it is impossible to focus in time.  However, the instinctive hand and eye coordination comes into motion and I was able to frame the horse in the rectangle and the focus not being sharp adds to the image rather than taking away from the composition.

In bowhunting, the same instinctive shot happens from time to time.  A deer suddenly presents itself to the hunter who has a split second to quickly pick a spot in the heart, lung area of the deer, draw back and release the arrow so it hits its mark accurately.  This is an instinctive shot.
